Most vanilla extract is single strength - if you wanted to split up the beans you could make 1.5 litres of extract.
Making vanilla takes time, alcohol, a dark cupboard, and fresh vanilla beans.
You can make at least 10 bottles of extract - great for gifts or simply for yourself.
Take the 20 - 8 inch Madagascar beans and cut them in half. Fill up the bottle with your extraction liquid of choice: vodka, bourbon, or follow this link for non-alcoholic options.
Place your 500ml bottle in a dark cupboard for around 4 weeks - Agitate it gently every week.
In 4 weeks you will have vanilla extract - keep filing it with the liquid ion your choice and top it up with occasional bean!
