ALEPPO PEPPER is made from the Halaby pepper. It is named after the town of Aleppo in Syria. It has a nice medium heat and a full, rich, tart and fruity flavour. Due to the ongoing civil war in Syria most of the Aleppo pepper production has moved to Turkey.
A simple Aleppo Butter is a great condiment to top off many dishes. It is great on poached eggs, grilled vegetables, mashed potatoes, gnocchi...
Aleppo Butter
2 Tbsp Butter
1 tsp Aleppo Chili
Melt the butter until it starts to get brown - take it off the heat and stir in the Aleppo pepper. Now, drizzle on whatever strikes your fancy.
Aleppo is used in Middle Eastern cooking (soups, salads, fish and kebabs). This chili has enough tomato fruitiness to be used in place of CHILI FLAKES in Italian cooking.
