TGALANGAL is a member of the ginger family and is native to Java and Southeast Asia.There are two types of Galangal - Greater Galangal, which is used mostly for cooking and Lesser Galangal, which has more medicinal applications and is seldom used in cooking. We sell only Greater Galangal. Its taste is similar to ginger but a little more fruity and sharper with perfumed notes. Galangal is an essential ingredient in Thai curries and dishes such as Tom Yum Soup. If you can't get your Thai food to taste right try adding a little Galangal!  The flavour of Galangal also helps neutralize overly fishy flavours and is therefore used in many seafood recipes.
